Joann Stores has notified Ohio officials of significant layoffs starting March 31, potentially affecting over 1,130 employees across its fulfillment and distribution centers, as well as corporate headquarters. This announcement comes as the company, operating more than 850 stores nationwide, undergoes bankruptcy proceedings and searches for a buyer.

The layoffs include more than 470 positions at the Hudson fulfillment center and West Jefferson distribution center, with an additional 660 jobs at risk at the Hudson corporate headquarters. These measures follow Joann’s second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in less than a year, during which it sought approval to sell its assets to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners.

In March 2024, Joann first filed for bankruptcy, reducing its debt to approximately $555 million and emerging as a private company owned by creditors. Despite these efforts, the company’s debt rose to $615.7 million by the time of the recent filing.

Joann continues to operate more than 850 stores across 49 states while seeking a buyer to avoid these closures and layoffs.
