Alphabet Inc.’s Google has laid off fewer than 100 employees in its cloud division, according to sources familiar with the matter reports Reuters. This move comes after the company missed analysts’ expectations for cloud revenue in the previous quarter
The layoffs have affected only a few teams within the cloud unit. Google has not provided an official comment regarding these job cuts.
A Google spokesperson said in a statement reported by BNN Bloomberg that the company continues to make adjustments to “meet our customers’ needs and the significant opportunity ahead.”
“As teams have been doing across the company, we’re making changes to continue to invest in areas that are critical to our business and ensure our long-term success,” the spokesperson said.
In January 2023, Google announced a significant reduction of approximately 12,000 jobs, accounting for more than 6% of its global workforce.
The recent layoffs in the cloud division are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to optimize resources and address financial challenges within its cloud operations.
